You may have noticed some changes as you drive down Manor Street. The Maintenance staff has restored The Pines sign and we have added energy saving LED lighting fixtures to illuminate the sign at night.A roof was added to the Community Center portico to provide a safe and protected entrance, especially during the winter months and the Pines Community Center sign has been moved to the front of the new portico. LED lighting was installed to enhance safety and security and to better assist guests in locating the building. These new LED lighting fixtures are an example of how the Pines Maintenance Department strives to implement energy saving measures where economically and practically feasible. We welcome ideas from our residents regarding energy efficiency and conservation.

Back by popular demand! Amanda Raymond, granddaughter of Joe and Edna Houy will be with us in the Baggs Room on Thursday, evening December 8 to play some beautiful Christmas music for us. Appetizers will be served starting at 6:00 p.m. and the music will begin at 6:30 p.m. Amanda, who is an excellent pianist, has recently played with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. We are so lucky that she has agreed to play for us again. Be sure to mark this date on your calendar. It will be a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
If you have not yet signed up for the bus trip to The Magic of Christmas concert by the Portland Symphony Orchestra on Friday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m., now is the time to do it. There are only a few seats left on the bus. Tickets are $20 per person. Call Deb now or send your money to the office in an envelope marked for the concert. If we do not fill the seats soon, we will open this trip up to the community so don’t wait! The Christmas concert is different each year and this year’s show will feature high wire acts in addition to the spectacular music played by the Orchestra. It should be a lovely afternoon.
On Wednesday, December 7at 10:00 a.m. in the Baggs Room, Gloria of Gloria’s L’il Gardens will return to do a repeat terrarium class. Gloria was with us in October and all the residents who participated were very happy with the terrariums they created. The cost of the class is $5and should be paid to Deb by December 2 so we can plan for supplies. If you have a special clear glass container (it does not need to have a cover), you may use it or you may choose from one of several that we have on hand. This is a great way to get some green in your apartment. It would also make a lovely gift.
