ABOUT DAILY LIFE

Mail is delivered to the mailrooms at the Community Building and Pinewood and is sorted into
individual mailboxes.

There are two laundry rooms, one each at the Community Building and Pinewood on the second floor.

There are also two libraries on campus, one in the Baggs Room and one on Pinewood second floor. In addition to our own racks, Libby Memorial Library loans to The Pines as well.

Many activities are offered on a regular basis. These are often organized by residents or are offered through local adult education programs.

A variety of Spiritual Life services is offered weekly with outside clergy or religious of all denominations officiating.

The on site Tenant Services Coordinator is available most weekdays to assist with getting information for home or personal care. The Coordinator can also act as liaison during medical crises or during other transitional periods.

Parking is assigned one space per household with visitor parking at designated areas. No parking is allowed on internal roadways or lawns.

» Can residents have birdfeeders?

Many "wild" animals have established the pine groves and woodland shoreline as habitat...their home. Residents should not feed the chipmunks, squirrels, crows, or seagulls. These four groups of "critters" can and have caused damage to outdoor furniture, automobiles, buildings, etc. Seek the deeper woods or the beach to satisfy your need to feed the animals.

» Is there someone in the community to walk and/or groom pets?

Residents owning pets are responsible for controlling the pet and maintaining sanitary conditions inside and outside the apartment.

» Pets? Can residents have them?

The Pines' policy allows for one domestic pet per household. Dogs are limited to households at the ground level and a pet should be size appropriate.

» Is there a storage unit for residents’ items that do not fit in the apartment?

Each apartment has customary kitchen cupboards and closets in the bedroom and for linens and coats. A limited amount of outdoor furniture may be stored on the unit's balcony/deck during winter months. Individuals are obliged to seek other facilities to store unused items.

» Are the apartments air-conditioned?

Residents may pay to have air-conditioning installed with signed authorization from the Administration. Some of the community's common areas are air-conditioned for all residents to enjoy.

» How many rooms are in the apartments?

All the apartments are single bedroom units that have fully applianced kitchens and bathrooms.  There is a separate living/sitting room.

» However, what if a pipe has burst?

The office phone is answered 24 hours per day. A staff person is always on call for emergencies.  Inconveniences can be reported but will receive attention when time permits.

» What if I have an emergency?

There are emergency pull cords in the bath and bedrooms. If residents are having a medical emergency though, the administration encourages residents to call 911 or invest in Lifeline for the times that no one is around.

» What if the faucet drips?

The Pines has on site maintenance staff. For routine minor problems, residents call the office or drop a note in the house mail to request a work order.

» Where do I put the trash?

Trash is picked up at your door twice per week. Dumpsters are on site. Recycling is encouraged.  Large items or hazardous items require removal that carries a fee.
